When choosing a makeup brand to support, there are so many different factors to consider–will this brand cater to my skin tone? Are their products easy to apply? How does this brand work with sensitive skin? It’s easy for us to come up with reasons of why brands will or will not work with us based on the products themselves, but what about the ethics of the company? One of the biggest questions that I would hear when working in cosmetics had nothing to do with whether or not the brand had quality products, but whether or not that brand tested on animals.
Cruelty-free brands have been a hot topic of discussion within the past few years. As the rise in animal rights activism has spread, more and more people are turning to brands who do not test on animals. Because of this, it is so much easier to find brands that are cruelty-free.

1. Tarte Cosmetics
If you’ve read any of my posts about makeup, you would know that I am CRAZY for Tarte. Not only do they have really effective products that do what they say, but they also make sure to keep their products natural. I have very sensitive skin, so I’m always on the hunt for brands that cater to redness and irritation. Tarte does just that. They carry everything from skincare to self tanners to eyeshadows that make your eyes pop.

2. Kat Von D
If you’re looking for a high intensity brand that packs a lot of punch, then look no further! Kat Von D, created by the famous tattoo artist, is a brand sold exclusively at Sephora. More famously known for her foundation and liquid lipsticks, she also carries a lot of hidden gems, like her eyeshadow palettes and pressed powder. Her makeup products do as they say, and say as they do. The staying power of her products is AMAZING, so if you have oily skin, you will definitely want to check her out!

99.9% of the time, if I’m looking for a good cheap dupe for a high end product, I can pretty much always find it in NYX. This brand has become a cult favorite in recent years, and rightfully so. If you’re tired of paying high prices for products that you know you could find cheaper, I always suggest starting out in the NYX aisle at Ulta and seeing what you can find!

If there was an award for prettiest packaging, Too Faced would win by a landslide. These cute, fun, yet effective products make putting on makeup so easy! All of their palettes come with a booklet on how to achieve different looks, making it simple for any beginner to come up with quick looks. The founders of Too Faced put so much thought into each one of their products. They always come out with innovative, and unique products and formulas that are unlike anything else on the market.
